Menopause is finally beginning to be recognised as an occupational health issue in the workplace with employers such as the police force developing policies to support their female workers at this time. A hundred years ago, the menopause often signalled physical decline. Today, however, this is not the case. Women over 40 form an integral, experienced and influential part of the work place. Mindfulness in the work place:
'Kerry's mindfulness workshop continues to be ever popular with the staff at City College. Mindfulness should be mandatory for all staff, such are the benefits! Staff who have undergone a Mindfulness workshop with Kerry have commented that, ‘it has made me think about looking after myself’, 'An informal, professional and inspiring workshop which effectively introduced key mindfulness methods to be used in every day life... Everyone should do it and have a regular refresher!' and it is ‘useful at the start and end of terms during stressful periods’. Investing in staff well-being and giving them some basic knowledge and tools to help them manage work and life in general, not only shows a commitment to our staff but also it can improve absence, anxiety and help for staff if feeling overwhelmed and needing support. Once staff have learnt the techniques they can use things like the breathing exercises or ways to centre oneself during a busy day. Similarly, these techniques can help staff enter a classroom in a calmer state of mind and could possibly affect the learning environment through feeling more in control of their own stresses and anxieties to manage those of students and support them more effectively. I will always push for staff to have access to this type of training as the benefits are a no-brainer!'

‘Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.’ Kabat-Zinn
Juggling current tasks, future targets and evaluating past performance in the workplace can leave us feeling somewhat scattered and overwhelmed. Multi tasking is over rated and inefficient.
